Does anyone use an electronic measuring gauge for an oil tank?

The manual gauge on my tank is broken and I've been searching online/reading reviews for months but I'm not sure what I'm looking for and what ones are reliable! I want to be able to see the volume left in the tank, from inside my house. But I need something that I can install myself, so need to be a "drop it in, turn it on" type thing! I don't want to spend a huge fortune either.

Any suggestions or recommendations gratefully received?

We are on oil too. Does your tank not have a clear pipe that runs down the outside of the tank and you can see the level of oil in the tank by what's showing in the pipe...hope this makes sense:). Oh just read your post again and you want something to be able to tell the level from inside the house? I didn't even know such a thing existed! To make sure our visual gauge is right we now and again open the tank and stick a cane in it to make sure of the level. Re anything else afraid I'm no help other than maybe contact some of the oil suppliers and see what they would recommend. Don't contact J Oil as from experience they are by far the most expensive for everything and will no doubt try and sell you an expensive monitor too:).:sign0016:

My friend has an in house monitor, my only experience of it, she lives in social housing, and kept insisting there was a leak, they fitted one for free.

It's the gauge outside the tank that is broken, it's blocked at the bottom. I don't know how to open the tank and need something that is easily read from inside the house as the house is empty but being kept an eye on by neighbour (its my parents house, dad passed away recently so I'm trying to make things as easy as possible for the person who is keeping a check on the house)

Ian Taylor - it's the watchman I've been reading up on
