I caught a wee bit of sun yesterday, but nothing too extreme, and stupidly made the assumption that today would be similar - - - how wrong could I be?!?!?!?

My back, neck, shoulders and now my belly are glowing like something left over from Chernobyl, and throwing more heat out than a three-bar electric fire! OK, I am exaggerating, but make no mistake, I am burnt - more burnt than a burnt mans burny thing.

In the past, I have had vinegar applied at this stage, and although it hurt like hell, it took the 'heat' out of the burn quite quickly; trouble is, I have no vinegar.

Mrs C has brought down a couple of bottles of moisturiser, but I am not convinced that adding what is effectively a light oil is the right thing to do?

I tried a towel soaked in cold water which helped momentarily, however once the water in the towel started to warm up, it just became a heavy thing pressing on sore skin.

Any ideas how to soothe sunburn?

@longk - you have to remember that I am Scottish - 16-18º is warm; 18-22° is hot; 22-25º is 'in the name of the wee man!' and 25º is positively tropical

Sweating our bits off building the shed with very little or no breeze, t-shirts were discarded in the mind that we were all right yesterday.........

Anyway, I can't undo it now; but if I could cool it a little it would be nice.

        Get some 'After Sun'' lotion.

I always keep one handy despite normally looking as if I've been rubbed in Walnut juice for most of the year.

          Up Jack got
          And home did trot
As fast as he could caper,
          Went to bed
          To mend his head
          With vinegar and brown paper.

When I was a kid my dad got totally burnt in Italy one year.
The locals said cut a tomato in half and apply the juice.
He said it worked. But never tried it myself.

I will need to warm a tomato up then, as they are in the fridge at the moment, and that contrast in temperature would be a step too far methinks

No 24hr supermarkets open on Sundays round your way, or ones which open just after midnight in the early hours of Monday morning?

24hr Tesco just up the road, but its shut until midnight, so its an option later on.

We do - supermarket ones anyway, main reason being a tiny kitchen.
