This is a nice recipe & made in the traditional way.... [IMG]

    OLD-FASHIONED LEMONADE.
    servings: 3 litres
Preparation Time: 15 minutes, plus 3 days setting aside

    INGREDIENTS.
    8 un-waxed lemons
    1kg 800g granulated sugar
    2400ml boiling water
2 teaspoons tartaric acid, (creme of tarar).
    Method
    1. Grate the zest of the lemons and squeeze the juice out. Place in a bowl. Now cut up the lemons and add those to the bowl.

    2. Place the sugar in a very large container. Pour the boiling water over the top, stir well to dissolve the sugar and leave to cool.

    3. Now add the tartaric acid and the lemon juice, zest and chopped lemon skins & stir well. Cover.

    4. Leave in a cool place for 3 days, stirring now and then.

    5. Strain through some muslin and bottle. It will keep for about 5 weeks in the fridge.

    6. Serve diluted with fizzy water and ice.

Tartaric acid is something that make things taste bitter .... as in 'tart' !! it is the molecule that makes unripe grapes taste sour.
The potassium salt of tartaric acid
is weakly acidic, and is known as "cream of tartar". But I'm not sure if you could dilute cream of tartar into this recipe . Perhaps MF will let us know ...

It sounds like our Citron Press© .... and a good way to use up our lemons ...yummy !!

I haven't seen C of T here, M-L, but then again, I haven't looked! :D :D :D We have several "English" shops (strangely enough, one 6kms in one direction and another 6kms in the other) so they may have it. If not, they will order anything for you.

I like the idea with the limes, MF! T'other half prefers limes anyway!

;) Try your english shops then LoL, for either creme of tarar or tartaric acid.. [IMG] Or failing that, maybe your pharmacy or a wine making shop..... ;)

Yes, MF. I go to the PO twice a week to collect post and the one is next to it! The farmacia is just across the road. Don't think I've ever seen a wine-making shop here ... they're call stills! :D
