Hello folks, anyone out there know much about cactus? I have a nine-year-old 'Old Man Of The Andes'. It has formed into a clump of three with a fourth one about to sprout. This cactus is now over 18 inches or 46cms in height and is in a ten inch pot of John Innes 2. How do I pot-on from here? It has outgrown every pot I've placed it in and now it's becoming a talking point with the neighbours as it is sat on my living room window sill. Any ideas would be welcome, as the Old Man is slowly outgrowing his place. Thank-you for your time :)

    A picture would be nice.:)

I usually dont repot cacti until about April.
I usually use JI with 50% grit added.

But if you dont keep potting it on growth will slow down.
Likewise I'm thinking JI no2 on its own is a bit rich for desert cacti.

You could try cuttings if you want to propagate it, but that would probably leave a nasty scar on the parent plant.

I will get a pic soon as, Pete and cheers for your reply. I've always used JI2 with this plant and it has continued to grow at roughly 2 inches per year since it came to me. As for cuttings, well this plant is part of the family now and I don't think I would have the nerve to try a cutting.
