you can see through the paddles as the inner timbers have gone, its an overshot wheel the water that fed it had been diverted a long time ago and the pond above filled in

        Oooohhhh lucky

I would just clean it up and make it a feature lots of mills dont have their wheels anymore so its def one to keep

I know my parents are a bit gutted that there mill doesnt have a wheel anymore

Remove it, lay it on its side and block up the slats and what do you have?

I'd paint it black and then plant some climbers to meander through it.

I kind of think it needs to remain where it is.
It even looks reasonably good now, with just a bit of attention it could look really good.

its staying where it is will be enough grief you'll see,the steal which is very good probably due to the tar like paint well what i can see of it,had thought of planting the paddles to look like water
flowing "be beyond me not that good with plants normally survival of the fittest"
or how about rigging some water works thinking, open crank stationery engine to pump water
over the wheel to make it turn, big water feature folly
                maybe just clear it out

What a great feature. Have you still got running water? You could generate your own electric.

Me personally I would do it up and have the disused water channel turned into a pond. I presume it must still be water tight more or less. Fill it with nice tall pond plants and have the water wheel sat in it.

It would be a challenge to do it up. Like JJ says, a pond would be good where the water channel is. It's too good a feature to leave or rip out. :spinning:

could you not do it up and get a high powered pump to push water back through the channel and have it on a loop so all it is doing is push the wheel round for show? Would be a big project but would be a great end goal to see it working as it should
