Hey all, looking for some advice please. We moved into our house in September last year and the garden is needing a lot of work. There we two old decks which I have removed and under one of the decks is an old pond. My question is if I want to get rid of the pond, do I need to take the plastic liner out or do I just put some holes in it and fill it in? We are looking to have grass in this area but ideas/suggestions welcome. 8E7DA028-67CE-4B30-ABE0-B0E3658F5049.jpeg 7B05C54A-A1F4-46EF-A0F8-ABE9C85BDAB7.jpeg B55FE5E4-718A-426E-B03A-028C1A8C103A.jpeg

    Hi,

You could spike it to allow the water to run though, but think that gound will always be different to the rest of the lawn and might look quiet obvious.

In your case suggest you remove the preformed pond and fill with similar soil to the rest of the lawned area so it should grow equal.

Also suggest you remove the pond carefully and when out fill it with water to check if it leaks, if not then you could get a few bob on the usual selling site as ponds are in high demand this time of year.
Same with th edging stones, you could include them in the sale if you have no use for them? saves a trip /cost to the dump.

Good advice from @ricky101 above, and I'd add that I was able to dispose of a rigid liner with a leak via my local freecycle group last month. I put up a post with photos and measurements, suggesting that it could still come in handy for creating a marsh garden or similar, and it had gone within 24 hours :).

Thanks for the advice. The liner was shot. It had a good few holes in it from when the deck was constructed as it had a huge amount of rubble, bricks, wood, screws in it. I have gone ahead and cut it out. I then found carpet under the liner so I’ve ripped all that out and have stopped for the day.

          Hi,

The carpet or similar was used to stop any sharp stones puncturing the liner, so hopefully you have reached the bottom !

You could fill the bottom with any stones you do not want to use and cover it with a layer of any old soil or sharp sand to fill in the gaps, but would suggest you try then use a decent layer of good top soil over that to give the grass a good foundation.

The top soil should be 'heeled in' , given a good watering and a week or so to help settle it down before a final levelling to the existing lawn to avoid it creating a hollow.
