Can't stand the stuff - must be my northern palate

When I was growing up, olive oil was only purchased from the chemist in wee brown bottles for when you had earache...

It worked too - my mum used to heat it up a bit by putting it in a teaspoon, then holding the bottom of the spoon just touching the top of a mug of boiling water.

Aye, but not in olive oil [emoji3]

I remember when a salad consisted of cold meat (usually Ham or corned beef), a boiled egg, grated cheese, pickled beetroot, a lettuce leaf and chips - I jest not

Silly billy! The idea was to heat the spoon up in hot water and *then* pour a small amount of olive oil *onto* the spoon and the residual heat would warm the OO ;)

Olive oil is the best, but I'm not too worried about rising prices because I've found that the cheap stuff often has as much flavour as the expensive stuff :)

Also, re the ear wax thing, no its not a Scots thing. Olive oil was the standard treatment for ear ache or blocked up lugs when I was little. In fact I still use the trick from time to time now. My trick is to pour a small amount into a shot glass, stand that in a cup of hot water for a minute or two, then spoon it in and then bung the lughole with tightly rolled bog roll, thus holding it in place for long enough for it to get to work.

I have had ear problems all my life and my mother did it too.
I have to see an ear specialist every 6 months, due to problem recounted in another thread, he is Greek, and I have to put OO in my ear for a week before I go, it`s horrid, having no ear drum it keeps going and makes me dizzy and nauseous. So OO in ear is pretty universal.
