Ok, so the tickets for the Olympics went on sale today. But do you have a Barclaycard, because, apparently, that's the only way you can pay for them.

Obviously Barclays are backing the games. But this is ridiculous and it's forcing people to open accounts with them.

I think I'd be inclined to tell them to go whistle and boycott the games. If a lot of people do the same, then the games will be a total flop! :what:

    Hi Sheal,

It's Visa that is the card you need. Most financial institutions do their own version of Visa so you do have a plenty of choices.

I definitely won't be buying any tickets so that leaves more for all of you :heehee:

I understand that a ticket for the 100 metre mens final is £725. At about 10 seconds for the race to be run that's over a quarter of a million pounds per hour :rolleyespink: :heehee:. Statistics are wonderful.

If I wanted to go to the Olympics (extremely unlikely) it looks as though I shall have to keep my Visa Card account open (my new bank uses Mastercard). This is the downside of competition.

I never realised just how expensive it would be to actually attend any of the events, I guess they want to make a profit as a lot of money has been invested in all the building work etc.

Not that I was planning on going, but if I was, I think I would be now giving it a miss on principle.

    Oh and lack of money.:D

It's a liberty limiting it to Visa. The website says you can post them a cheque or Postal Order so there are alternatives. I've never seen anything like this before, except on the telly, so I'm going to apply. It's just a question of which sport, Mrs JWK has ruled out me watching the ladies beach volleyball in Whitehall. The road cycling is coming very close to home, so we should be able to see that for free, but that will be very boring. I'm thinking of watching the rowing, it's something we might get a medal in and it's not in London so it's got some advantages.

If I were you guys planning on spending money... I wouldnt commit my cash until after the 'supermoon' or 'megamoon' or whatever nickname folk (skynews) are giving it today. :loll:

I know what you mean... Would serve them right for charging insane prices, but at the same time, you wouldnt want to see it end up as a total flop, which half the world will undoubtedly be hoping for.

I've never been mad on athletics or sport to be honest. So the thought of all that forthcoming TV coverage and all the other media bla de bla is going to drive me into my padded cell with my jacket tied up nicely.:D

I've never seen the point of countries, that can't even look after their own poor and aged people, clamoring to spend billions on creating fantastic sporting facilities that, after the event, will dwindle away to become a shopping mall or the like. We've somehow, in the time of a major global recession got to spend this fantastic sum of money and hope we recuperate some of it! There's all that claptrap about it bringing in tourist and business money but I can't bring myself to believe it.

So. like a lot of us, I'll be out in the garden more than before:thumbsup: or in my padded cell:D

Yes lets prove to the world how good we are at organizing and building stuff, it will all run like clockwork ...

... just like the newly installed olympic clock in Trafalagr Square that stopped working after less than 24 hrs

BBC London 2012 Olympic Countdown clock stops!

The thing that strikes me about the whole set up is, if it makes a loss the tax payer will probably pick up the bill, if it makes a profit we will not notice the difference.

I'm just wondering where there's a beach in Whitehall! :heehee:[hr]
Seems we are all of the same opinion and I certainly won't be going, I don't like sport.

I won't have to suffer it on the television either, that went out the door on new years eve when our licence expired. Phew!

The television going is why you are all lumbered with me on Gardeners Corner. Sorry! :heehee:
