HEDGEHOG in my garden!!!! YAY!! Ok ok, I may be easily pleased but it was major excitement for me seeing the little cutie snuffling about on my lawn tonight while I had my cuppa; (I wondered how come the slug population was diminishing!) I always wanted a hedgehog, now I'll have to get more logs and things and hope he stays! :D

their so much fun to have in the garden, you could try to bribe a return visit with a little cat/dog food (no bread and milk) its very bad for them..gives them diarrhoea. Hope you see your little friend again ;)

    Awww, sweeeeeet!!! :D

Ive already done the dog-food bribery bit ;)
(I'd heard about the milk & bread thing too), sadly in my excitement to get a saucer of food, switching on the kitchen light made little hedgey run for cover and he'd gone by the time I came back out! He'll be back ;)

Like the name..bit more original than ours (Spike) Because of my job we allways end up with all the rehab cases in our garden, so we just call them all Spike, we used to glue a little coloured bead onto each one for identification purposes. most of the injuries were caused by people strimming long grass :(
Read an article the other day that said Hedgehogs are underthreat, and that they may become extinct within the next 20 years :(
Bit of useless info..female Hedgehogs are called Hedgepigs

Theoretically they should be called hedgesows, I suppose, and the babies hedgepiglets. My neighbour found one in the garden the other night, and I found some droppings in my garden so hopefully they'll stay around. I can't feed them as the dogs and cats would just scoff food before the hedgehogs found it, but there are PLENTY of slugs up for chomping... I love the sniffing and snortling sounds they make as they go. [IMG]

It's always a joy to see a hedgehog in the garden. I was sitting outside the other night (I often sit outside in the dark star-gazing!) and was delighted to watch one scurrying about! I immediately christened it Harriet!

Ah, well, I sat outside late last night but no sign even of the frogs (I'm thinking maybe they have work this morning so had an early night ;) )
I did leave a saucer of dog food out for Hedgey, with 2 types of food on.. one of the lumps had gone this morning so I doubt it was cats. There was Hedgey poo in the entry aswell so he may well snuffle round the front garden too!
Poppy that name has stuck now!!

We all think its a great name, the children have sugested that the ones I bring home from work this year should all be called "Hedgey" we have called all of last years "Spike" so we are now going to have 2006 year of the "Hedgies" :D
Hope your Hedgey pays you a visit tonight ;)
