Are onions and garlic hungry plants?

I'm just deciding whether to fling manure in the bed before planting.

We've got Stutgart Giants and Marco garlic.

If anyone has any advice on growing onions I'd be really grateful.

It would certainly help, if its rotted. I don't think manure will make them bolt, in fact it would also help with moisture retention as well as feeding them.

I'm going to be manuring my Kelsae onion bed before they go in.
