its fine to grow onions in tubs, i do this every year with really good results

in terms of old compost, im unsure. I always use fresh with some mixed in blood fish and bone meal

are you going to be growing the onions from seeds or sets?

What sort of compost was it nijinski? Potato compost might be a bit rich for onions.

I'd go for it and see what happens. My guess is it will be fine. The spuds will have taken a lot of nutrients out though. I usually feed stuff with chicken poo pellets.

        ok, in that case...

if you have access to a greenhouse, id start the sets off as soon as you get them and then transplant them out around March, if not, direct planting in March.

i grow them from seed so will be starting them off within the next couple of weekends (waiting for aldi to get its seed compost in) and then will transplant them out around the end of April
