Onions thinking about flowering

    Noticed a few Onions thinking about flowering, some buds are appearing, which I am pinching off. Is this a good or bad sign ? (we planted them in mid March)

    Make a note of which ones start to flower (stick a blank white label next to it, for example). They won't keep, so use them up first. It happens ... :( (but you are right to take the flower bud off as soon as you see it forming).

    Sets bigger than 3/4" circumfe3rence are more prone to "bolting", so buy/plant little'uns :thumb:

    Flower buds on Onions have some posh name, for some reason ...

    Thanks for that information / advice, Kristen.

    By the way, don't know about the Bud, but the flowers are Umbles, because the flower stalks are equal in length and spread out from a common point like Umbrella ribs, apparently :) (like Carrot, Dill and Parsley)

    There's quite a few recipes on the 'Net for Garlic / Onion scapes, I feel a meal coming on.......:):)
