Had a check over of the garden this morning, and things are moving. I unwrapped the ferns and palms and they are fine and dandy, so the fleece has done its thing. The grass has grown and is starting to thicken and be that emerald green. :dancy:

Had a check on my ensettes which are overwintering in the garage and they look great upto now, along with the cyathea australis and my large Diksonia. Can't wait to get out there and start the garden again. It's seemed an age since summer now!

We've still got at least a month of winter to get through. No, no, let's reframe that.

We've only got another month of winter to go. Nope, can do better.

Yippee! Another month of wooly socks, hot water bottles, interesting and unusual forms of precipitation and exciting temperature variations to go.

I'm not convincing anyone, am I?

In Wirral we tend to be lucky in that we have Spring a little earlier, due to some geological/topographical influence, I remember many years since I was small, Pelargoniums would be planted here in March, and they never ever failed, even with light frosts (though our old garden was very sandy). Then again in those days before 2009 Pelargoniums grew all year around and even put the odd flower out in winter. How i miss those days!

Plants are often tougher that we give credit for.. Alocasia still going strong outside tucked up against a wall, no protection.

Who knows when that severe frost is coming though?

Fleece is at the ready for the cold spells, the Diksonia is still in the garage along with the ensettes and the cyathea.

Stephen is right though, here we have our own little microclimate so we don't usually get the cold like the rest of the nw,and spring does come a likkle earlier. Roll on a month!

Be careful. Its nice here too and people at work are already talking as though winter is over, but we've got 6 weeks yet. February is often worse than January, and early March quite often plays cruel tricks on us, being full of the promise of spring one day then rapidly descending into the darkest depths of winter the next.

My camellias aren't being fooled by a couple of days of balmy weather. I think they know more than we give them credit for. No sign of any bud break....
