Orange spots on pear tree leaves which, because I did nothing about it last year, seem to have got worse. The spots are about .1 of an inch in diamiter with a darker centre and bright orange.Last year the grew into a wart looking scab, I burned all of the leaves but did nothing to the tree. I can't find it in my book ( get a new book I hear you cry)
    Any ideas?

Could be leaf blister mite, can be a serious pest on pears grown against a walls. Leaves are spotted with yellow or red blisters which later turn black. Affected leaves fall early, and fruit may be blistered. Pick off and burn any diseased leaves as soon as they are noticed. [IMG]

Sounds to me like rust, I treated a pear today with exactly the same problem. Spray witn a systemic fungicide, such as Dithane 945 suitable for use on food crops. David.

What is the best way to get rid of the leaves? Wait until Autumn when they drop off or physically cut them off with shears?

@Peter Piper I would wait for them to drop off then rake up and donate to council composting scheme or burn them.
