Good morning all. I have silver roots above the soil on my orchid. See pictures 2 & 3. Advice online claims that this is a sign of dehydration yet the roots in the soil are a healthy green. Should I be concerned?
I know the leaves are slightly red on pictures 1 & 4 but I'm guessing that's because (only on sunny days) it gets a SHORT blast of early morning sunshine.
Is my guess right or is there anotherr reason? TIA

The roots do have a silver appearance when they dry out on the surface , if you spray them they may well turn green for a while until they dry out again.

Though not as attractive, its often better have the plant just in its clear pot so the light can get to its roots, which is the opposite of normal plants.
It also helps the plant breathe better as overwatering and rot is probably the most common problem.

We generally only put them into more attractive pots when moving them into lounge etc when in full flower.

You might find this recent thread of interest where we have been trying out the glass jar method.

All is well now. Repotted as advised, cut all dead and decaying roots and replanted in new orchid mix. This was last year and now I have plenty of Aerial routes and think we're on the way to recovery. So thanks to everybody for advice
