Hello, hope you are all well.
I have a few orchid plants scattered around the house and they had the flowers on for at least 2 months (if not even more) but now they have all dropped and all I have is two long bare stems. :o
Do I need to cut them? When wiil I get new flowers? Also are they happy to stay in the pot you usually buy them in or should they be repotted? I am not an expert but I noticed that the roots are not in the soil...I am a bit confused.

    Look forward to the advice

    Thanks

Without seeing them it is difficult to advise but I would guess they are probably Phaelenopsis (moth orchids) particularly if the leaves are wide and fairly flat, green above and reddish purple below.
I would leave them in their pots as orchids hate root disturbance and being epiphyte do not like being wet, also the roots in the natural state are exposed to light and air so are grown in clear pots. Rain water is preferable to tap but is not essential.
If the stems are withering you can cut them off but not before. They can flower again within a year but are unpredicable. One of mine had two stems last summer but has now only produced one but it is worth the wait.

There's a great site which has loads of information on many plants and little how-to videos :) (and there all American...lol so plant names sound funny :P)

Just follow the link and search for "orchids"
