Please join us in a walk around an oriental market -

A man selling all sorts of raw olives. People like to buy them like this and then pickle them to their own tastes -

    Various veggies -

Hubby admiring the sweet chestnuts, which he loves to roast at home himself. The ones next to him were really huge and only cost 9 YTL per kilo, ââ??¬5.40.

Kaki fruits (or were they Sharon fruits?), giant pears and some bananas -

All sorts of dried fruits and nuts -

Amazing, Sis ... don't they have a lot of everything and it's so lovely and fresh looking and so neatly arranged! Also love the containers with lids. Those Kaki (Sharon Fruit) look like the horribly sweet Diospyros (Persimmons). Pears ??????? And I espy yummy dried figs.

Chestnuts have been out here now for about a month, anywhere from 2,99-4,99 Euros a kilo. Lidl had a special last week at 79c a kilo, limit of 5 kilos.

I was at Lidl's yesterday but they didn't have the chestnuts in yet Sis. What a fantastic price in your Lidl! - have never seen them that cheap. The ones in the market in Kemer were sorted by size and the price was according.

David, did you buy some Kaki fruit? We quite like them now and then, but I only buy them on sale, too expensiver otherwise.

Loved the fuit in Turkey Kedi, the peaches were huge and ripe (not like here where you wait a week then they rot as they ripen!) Sharon fruit is the alternate name for Persimmon, although I heard that a Supermarket banned or changed the name cos Sharon is also a nickname for an Essex girl and could cause offence!!!)
Can't say I like them much, too astringent for me.
Those dried figs have reminded me I've run out, I'll have to buy another kilo! [IMG]

strongy, there was a phrase in America ... "he/she has the personality of a Persimmon" which meant they were of a sour/bitter nature. We were so shocked when our neighbour gave us one here and it was so horribly sweet. [IMG]

Mmmmmmm ... dried figs, have some in the fridge ... must buy more also. [IMG]

I don't have any 'trouble' but I like figs so much I buy a kilo at a time. The figs I bought at Lidl's last xmas were better than any others, haven't seen them there yet they probably only have one 'seasonal' delivery!
The Turkish markets are fantastic although last august the covered one was like a sauna as it was 41c outside and inside was melting point!
