It's only been the last few months I have started trying to taking photos apart from family snaps.
I would welcome comments on these I have taken of our lovely park.
I would appreciate any criticism that might help make them look better.
I have lived near here all my life and only just started to see the park properly.
The passed few days I have seen places I never knew existed.

    Sutton Park West Midlands.

    Hi Lyn (again)
Well you've got yourself a pretty good camera in the DMC-FZ8 and as you've already discovered it takes really good photos even when left to itself.
As you've said, taking photographs has already got you started looking at, and much more importantly really seeing, what's around you.
With your camera you've now got the ability to create rather than just capture.

Photography comes from the greek and means writing with light. A good photograph tells a short story. The photographer is as a writer and uses the viewfinder to frame the subject and control of light to form words describing it. The difference between a good photograph and fair one is similar to that between a Mills & Boon novel and a one off Best Seller. In the latter case the author will have found a unique slant on the story. The challenge is finding the unique slant!

Your photos in the park are nice and clear. The toadstools were particularly impressive.

Some suggestions to make them even better :-

Experiment with different viewpoints. Get down and dirty and try ground level views - it creates a quite different perspective. (Your toadstools would have looked great from underneath)

Try macro shots. The tiny things we don't see going on around us are worth 'writing about'

Experiment with manual control of your camera. Try under and over exposure. You are not paying for film or developing so duff shots cost nothing and you'll be amazed at the variation in photo quality. Just play with the thing if nothing else, you'll not break it!

Get a tripod or monopod. I see from one of your photos that it was taken at 1/20 of a second at f2.8. As a result it isn't quite as sharp as it could be.

Best advice of all - take loads and loads of pics, experiment with the camera and be prepared to s**** most photos. It doesn't cost and the gems are worth the time.

Happy snapping and keep at it! [IMG]

Keep snapping Lyn, as Dave says it cost nothing these days once you've bought the equipment and the more you take the better you get at finding the good angles and lighting.

    Thank you Dave W
I really do appreciate any criticism .
I'm not the type to take the hump cos you may say you don't like something in my photos. :D
I am going to start to try different things, and stop playing safe.
Have read some more in the book .
I can only take in a little at a time.
    [IMG]
But thanks to everyone , you really do make a difference.

I intend getting out to my local park during my day off on tuesday, try and snap some of the glorious autumn colours before they fade.
