    Hi All,

    I was thinking of planting a outdoor grape on the fence at the back of the garden which will grow along the trellis next to the decking , it gets baked in sunshine from 1.00am till sunset .

    Best varieties please

    It will have the opportunity to be planted in the ground.

    White or black , dessert as I dont make wine.

          Hi All,

          Found a great little nursery and close to finding which varieties to go for I will let you know why I choose them., both new varieties that don't suffer from Mildew and do really well in the UK climate.

            Here my three varieties and why;

            the lady that looks after the collection is very helpful, and I explained what I was after and my growing conditions I know they will take a while to settle in but hopefully starting with 3 great varieties will get me off to a good start.

            Disease resistant hybrid vines; these are cross-breeds between vitis vinifera, and native American vines like vitis Labrusca. Most of this cross-breeding has been carried out by German vine breeders, and these vines are now widely grown in German and English vineyards., all this will help with keeping mildew very low or non existent.

            KEMPSEY BLACK
            Best black grape to grow in the UK outside, it has big bunches and a rich flavour, so if you want to grow just one or two vines for eating, this is the one to plant.
            It also makes a lovely Pink wine, with a strawberry bouquet.

            Phoenix
            Large fruits which turn yellow when ripe, delicious aroma.
            Also a heavy cropping variety, has good mildew resistance.
            Picking time Late September

            Muscat Bleu
            For my greenhouse the lady has advised a black dessert that has a lovely muscat flavour and isn’t vigorous so should be ideal.
