    Hi All,

Quick question, its now 16 May , normally I would have planted out 90% of my hardy annuals & hanging baskets and towards the middle of May courgettes/marrows.

But, I still have 100% still in the greenhouse, which I would imagine your's are packed out to the gunnels just like mine, which can produce a whole number of other problems ie disease mildew etc .
    • what do you have out or in ?
    • when are you hoping to plant out.
Also this thread may help new GC members, so adding roughly where you live if not in your avatar would help.

Hi, definitely in. I'm in the north east and we've had some really cold weather lately. Some of my peppers, chillis and all my cucs are still on window ledges in the house! I don't usually plant out annuals here before the start of June but everything in the greenhouse is still very small due to the cold nights.
I'm hoping to get one cuc into the greenhouse tomorrow, it's halfway up my window, with 5 ( very small) cucumbers on it!!!
Everything in the greenhouse is sooooo slow but I'm sure it will catch up soon (hopeful smiley).
Hanging baskets are out, have been for a week, no room in the greenhouse lol, watching the weather like a hawk though.

Lots of us are thinking the same Spruce . As we are having a run off mildish nights 8°c - 10°c here . I brought out all my annuals yesterday and put them under fleece at night . Hung out my Begonia baskets in a very sheltered spot - its been blowing a gale !! Planted 3 Cannas today.
My tender climbers , Thunbergia , Spanish Flag , Cup and saucer are still in the GH along with a few containers I planted . Forecast for next two weeks ... night temps not too bad , daytime 14°c -----not exactly sitting out weather is it !

I have evicted some of my lager/more established ones today purely to make some room in the greenhouse; nice to finally see things a-moving. I would be really surprised if there was a frost where I am now

Well I'm out and in. I'm leaving everything out tonight apart from my toms and climbers. I accidentally left some annuals out last night and they were fine this morning so out they're staying and they'll have to lump it.

I have planted out my window boxes and put them out (impatiens, fuschia and begonia) - they've been outside for over a week and seem to be doing well. Same with some seet peas. Yesterday some salvia, begonia and petunia went into various containers and today the sunflowers were planted out. Tomorrow will be gazania, more salvia and more petunia and a few more climbers into beds. Our lowest temps here have been 6 at night and mostly around 10 - 12C. Still got loads of others to go but it's just working out what's going where rather than whether it's the right time to put them out. I thought I had a plan but.....

I always aim at planting out around the time of the next bank holiday. I suppose it stems from when I was a kid and helped during the holiday.

Everything still in the GH apart from 2 hanging baskets :gaah: Which I only put out this afternoon.
The Brugmansias have been out a couple of nights in a sheltered spot that's it.
It's not so much the cold but the constant strong winds thrashing everything about.

Mine are all still in the greenhouse and half of them are suffering because they need to be in the ground, the other half are barely growing. They've been out for a couple of days but as Mowgley says, it's mainly the wind that is the problem. :doh:It's now got to the point where I may as well put them out because they will die in the greenhouse in the next couple of weeks anyway.

It seems as if we have caught up with the UK here now....

I have been a little ambitious, as I have small cloches (tied down with string, against the strong winds) warming the veg bed.

For the last 4 weeks I have had my asparagus peas and green courgette out underneath the first cloche. Three weeks ago I planted out my first sowings of french beans and mangetout peas. These are all at the top of the garden - although far from the house, the street level (next to the veg bed) can be up to 2 degrees warmer than near the house, in the winter....

Two weeks ago the first tumbling toms went out in the trough under the kitchen window.

Last week the first of the cordon toms went into the veg bed (harbinger, planted flush to the cloche, for warmth), as well as the first of the yelloe courgettes (I find these are more tender than the greens).

Last night it was forcast to be down to 5c, with the next week being warmer (low of 7c for the week), so this morning the last of the cordon toms (gwrdeners delight) and the first of the aubergines went out.

Flowering plants wise, the petunias have been slowly going out over the past few weeks. It has not been the cold getting them, but the slugs! The sweet peas went out 2 weeks ago, night scented stock sbout 7 days ago...

As Mowgley and Sheal said , the wind is giving everything a good thrashing about . I am not putting anything at the front of chez Harry until things calm down and warm up.
I got the numpty of the weekend award . Got most annuals out on the patio covering them with fleece at night .Forgot last night ! The forecast 9°c was 6°c :gaah:They should be OK , fingers crossed.

Things have been very slow this year.

Only hardy things are outside and we haven't yet planted our runner beans out although they're hardening off. We've kept them back mainly because they're not big enough yet for the pigeons to ignore!

Chillies are all still indoors because of lack of room in, or near, the propagator in the greenhouse. This is the 'knock-on effect of a slow start.

Our hanging baskets are outside, on the ground, but partially under cover (will be frost free).

Bank Holiday is usually a recommended date for putting things out but you need to keep an eye on the forecast.
