    Hi all
I'm after some advice about my over zealous raspberry cane!! Bought a small plant from Tesco last summer and its literally about 20 x its original size. I thought this was great at first then realised that it was sending up suckers all over the place and now to the detriment of everything else near. So my question is, can I thun out now or is it too late this year? It's on its 2nd year so hopefully the first year it'll fruit so don't want to compromise that. Or can i just cut it back as opposed to digging suckers out? If so will this encourage more fruit? Its an extremely healthy plant but all else is suffering!
Any advice would be most welcome

Hi @Jowo I find raspberries have Putin-like attitudes to world domination. I'm constantly pulling out new growths. I wouldn't cut them because they still come up. A sharp spade helps to sever their links with the mother ship, and then pull or dig out

As I remember, autumn fruiting ones do it on current growth, so any you pull out now are probably going to lose you fruit. Mine are summer fruiting, but there are so many growths I don't care as long as I can check their encroachment - today my garden, tomorrow Ukraine!
