    Hi all,

I am about to overseed my lawn following a rather bad moss problem. I applied weed and feed 4 weeks ago and have scarified the lawn using a spring rake and aerated with a garden fork. I am also about to cut the lawn (if the weather holds off!).

What I don't know is what ratio of seed to compost and sand I should apply. The box states an overseed rate of '25g per sq. metre' which can be mixed with 'equal proportions of compost and sand'. Does this mean equal proportions of all three (25g of each), or just that the compost and sand should be in equal proportions, but less than the seed? If so, how much compost and sand should I mix in?

Also, if I have mixed in compost and sand, I presume I then have to up the distribution level on the spreader so that it still sows 25g per sq. metre of SEED and not 25g of the mixture.

Or, should I just skip the compost and sand and sow it directly?

I hope this makes sense. It is the first time I have done this and I would appreciate any help! :help:

    Thanks

The compost or sand helps to stick the seed, seed on its own is easily picked up by birds etc.

Id use a tad less sand/ compost perhaps. leave the spreader at 25g.

I hope the rain held off for you-it didn't here, it's bucketing it down

Thanks for the advice Pro Gard. Unfortunately the rain didn't hold off and although I managed to get a cut in before the heavens opened, the seeding will have to wait until tomorrow (weather permitting!).
