Just something curious...I was near St Paul's cathedral in London the other day and there were several trees painted in blue...bit odd but the effect was nice.

    Sorry, I think its awful.:sofa:

It is the same shade of blue as that blue plastic pipe the utility companies make extensive use of, except they at least have the courtesy to hide theirs underground out of sight.

They dont look like tree trunks to me.
Odd how the colour matches the fence posts in the distance.;)

Horrible and unnecessary :yikes:, agree though that it's odd how it seems to have been done to match the distant fence posts!!??

Could the authorities have popped blue piping round the tree stems to stop them being damaged by cyclists chaining their bikes to the trees?

            Cheers, Tony.

@pete and @Bilbo675, if you look really carefully, those matching distant fence posts are in fact the trunks of other trees.

To be fair though, it is London. In London, they have some funny ideas about the countryside you know.

I remember my grandfather was painting the orange trees in white , but not to match the fence posts , but to protect trees from insect attack and sunburning on yound trees .

In the Caribbean it is common practice to paint the tree trunks white for the reasons that Sal gives. I quite like the blue trunks, it forces us to see them in a different way.

Good grief no, there are more :hate-shocked:, have these people never heard of the old saying "blue and green should never be seen" :heehee:

I do like the face carved in to the tree though, presumably where a branch has been removed :dbgrtmb:

Well if they are tree trunks they are very smooth, what kind of tree are they?

It does look awful if that is the case.
I bet barmy Boris had a say.

Some nice bits of blue, water main, pipes stuck in the ground, with some plastic leaves on top would have looked much nicer.

Sal pic two has surely been over photoshopped.

I rather like the later trees that sal posted, but the first ones just look odd...cant help thinking .. what a waste of time and money if there is no purpose other than to make them blue

maybe they look better in winter, couldnt look much worse thats for sure
