    You often see avenues of Washingtonia (Sky Duster) and Phoenix (Date palms) abroad but not possible here but in Branksome in Bournemouth they have the next best thing, Trachycarpus (Windmill) palms planted as street trees, they give the road a tropical feel to it, there are about 20 and look impressive and will take any cold winters.

      Has potential and well done council for thinking different for a change. Hope they look as good in a few years!

      They have tried something similar in Folkestone.
      Last time I looked the whole set up looked awful, the winter gales and salt had wrecked the planting.

      And after spending all their money on palm trees, there was nothing left over to pay to fix that massive great pothole in the pavement:)

        Pete, these are a good half mile from the coast so get protection from the surrounding buildings.
