    Hello,

My acer griseum has browning leaves that have been gradually getting worse the past few weeks (see photos). I assumed leaf burn, and have been giving it plenty of water during the dryer spells.

I’m worried as there doesn’t appear to be much new growth, however it was only planted this winter just gone. Please can anyone give me some advice? Or recommend a suitable solution?

    Many thanks

They do generally like sheltered part-shade. It could be it is a bit exposed to either wind or sun. Where are you located (roughly)?

In Worcestershire, it is fairly exposed, but I do recall reading that they don’t mind full sun , unlike a lot of acers which do prefer a part-shaded spot.

Fair enough. :) Some can certainly take more sun than others.

The problem is Acer covers sycamore all the way to those very fussy Japanese maples.

I think yours is a fairly big tree eventually and it looks like its not been planted long.
Maybe it got a bit dry around the roots at some stage?, but its not really something I would worry about unless the leaves died entirely.
Just a bit of scorch perhaps.

My Paper Bark Maple has been in the ground just short of a year, and it too is looking a little battered by the warm, dry windy weather we've just had. Paper Bark Maples are slow growers too (It might take 10yrs to double its current size!), so i'm not expecting very much new growth at all for a few years. They are perfectly fine in full sun, mine is in full sun

Be patient, keep it well watered (2 to 3 5ltr cans, once a week June to end August) and it'll be fine. It'll need regular water for the next two to three years
