My runner bean leaves have some white papery patches like leaf mines but there is no frass in the mine held up to the light.

If they are not a leaf mine what could they be?

A photo would help Lad. Are these outside? If it's just the odd leaf I wouldn't worry too much, they will soon be shooting up the poles and producing lots more leaves.

Mine have this problem too, I believe they were caught by the frost. I had placed some flower buckets over them, but the ones that are like that were touching the plastic buckets.

Lad, I can see your photo of the runner bean leaves in your Album, that is very strange, looks like something has been dropped onto the leaves, like a chemical. It could be as Larkshall says or maybe you've splashed something on them? It's certainly not leaf miner.

It's generally not a problem. I haven't seen the picture but, because of the hot weather we have had, it sounds more like sunburn caused by water left on the leaves when you water them.
