I want a gallon or two of Paraffin for my flame thrower. We used to just nick some out of the central heating tank ... but we've given up oil CH ...

So I typed "Paraffin" into Yell.com and it is only giving me suppliers who sell it by the tanker load!

Is there some magic brand name I should be using?

back when I were a lad I think it was "Esso Blue" with some jingle on the telly that I've forgotten ... the only back-then-jingle that springs to mind is "Made to make you mouth water" and I'm pretty sure that wasn't for Paraffin :D

Last time I bought some was from a petrol station, I think most still do sell it in gallon (or 4.5 litre) containers. Look for it on the forecourt next to the BBQ charcoal & coal. Not sure what brand I got, but its still called paraffin.

what you need is to go to a proper hardware store

im sure most allotments sell it aswell

Is £4.50 a gallon expensive to pay or not ?? thats what my local hardware store is charging in your own can

    "proper hardware store"

    What, like ScrewFix? :hehe:

I really cannot think of a proper hardware store anywhere near here. When I was a kid we had one in OUR VILLAGE - long since gone of course :(

I'll try Yell.com for those suggestions, thanks chaps (price not an issue as a gallon will last me all season)

Theres no need to go out your way. Look on your local petrol station forecourt Kristen, many stations still stock it.

I'm obviously not being very observant. Is there a brand name / logo / sign that I should be looking out for chaps?

I am sorry, but i don't agree with that. Most petrol stations sell anything that makes money, parafin doesn't.

    as for esso blue......

YouTube - Esso Blue Dum Dum Dum

Many moons ago, before diy sheds there was the "Hardware shop" and they did sell parafin, but they changed to esso pink (I jest not)

Later you could, as said get it from some (not many) petrol staions, it was self service done by an automatic pump / machine, because you could get it when the petrol staion was closed. But I have not seen one of them (The parafin thing) in 20+ years

My tesco petrol station has it and thats only a small garage. Garden centers should have it, try a small nursery it might be cheaper there.

Its on the forecourt of a couple of petrol stations I use, sold in 5 litre containers along with the coal and BBQ stuff, given the silly price I think they probably do very well out of it.

The stuff I've bought is called Bartoline.
