We "did" Paris a couple of times and found it very reasonable.

The secret is to go around the corner, or down a side street and to only go into a place that's packed with locals. If it's packed with locals, then the prices will be OK. If there's an English menu displayed outside, stay away.

    Strongy, lovely pics :gnthb:.

As you know, we go to Paris and the prices of food and coffee have shot up enormously :(, even in the local places. We have a few favourite places to eat but even they have increased a lot.

When we were there at the end of September I also checked the prices of the food in the supermarkets. They were much higher than here and the meat in the butcher's shop was ridiculous - 32 Euros per kilo for rib of beef.

Info:- You can still get some meals at a reasonable price. There is a lovely take-away in the Rue De Rivoli that does excellent food quite cheaply. They have a large variety of things on their menu. I like their Falafel (3 euros) - and their chips are good :hehe:. For a good meal I would recommend La Place Royale in the Place De Vosges. Their set three course meal (very wide choice) is 38 euros which includes an aperitif, wine and coffee.

You showed a photo of Trocadero. There is a good place there for breakfast. Continental is 8.50 euros including freshly squeezed orange juice, toast, jam and coffee - but don't order an extra coffee as they will charge 5.50 euros .

We have some friends who live in Calais. They do their food shopping in Dover :hehe: :rotfl:.

Having said all that, Paris is a lovely city, great sights and so easy to walk around.

The hop on hop off tour buses are expensive. You can buy a day ticket on the local transport for very little and do your own hop on hop off. :)

Thanks Penny, it was a short break, three nights, but well worth it.:gnthb:

Paris is only 3 hours away from London by Eurostar (high speed train) but it takes 3 hours to get from here to london. (Low speed train:D).

To be honest Pal it wasn't our first choice for a break, we were going to go to Amsterdam but thought it was too expensive so chose Paris instead. It probably cost more in the end.:dh:
It's an easy city to get around, walking or Metro. Worth a visit even if like us you aren't interested in Museums or Galleries.:)
