From time to time my parlour palm gets dusty (despite covering when vacumming the carpet). I know there are milky type products you can buy (which repulse me being sticky and disliking the thought of residue left on the leaves) but I am looking for a natural method of cleaning the leaves.

I do use a small spray (to humidify it mostly) but this obviously does little to displace any dust that might be on the leaves. I use a damp paper towel and gently wipe over the leaves. However, the leaves look a tad bent/slightly crumpled along their length in places when I do this (regardless of how lightly I wipe).

    Is there another natural method?

My usual method of cleaning house plant leaves is to put them outside, on a warm day, and hit them with a forceful jet of water from a pressure sprayer.
It gets the worst of it off.

That makes sense...except that it is quite a large parlour palm (around 3') in a long, thin tin pot (also around 3') that is not really designed for moving around, i.e. could easily bend out of shape (with the weight of the soil and plant).

I guess I could use the base of my shopping trolley to transport it but seems like a major operation.

Just had a thought...I have some water pistols! [IMG] (I used to aim them at straying cats before I got a better fence erected. Actually I found that clapping your hands moves cats on just as easily. Also I can make their kind of hissing sound which vamooshes them!).

    Hi Rosebay,
I use a normal small spray and add a drop (1!) of washing up liquid. It seems to loosen the dust from the leaves. If your palm is on a carpet, cover it before spraying as you get the best results if you spray the leaves dripping wet.

Walls are also in danger zone unless you are a very skilled sprayer.

Added bonus- you save money. No need to invest in these:
