I have 3 parrots that share my home, happily alongside my dog. 2 of my birds are rescues and one my husband bought for me on my 40th. They all have very different characters and keep me smiling all day long. This is the reason I want to grow my own fruit and vege, its very exspensive feeding my feathered in-mates. Hopefully I have added the pics .....

Lovely birds you have there Ashia, they look good healthy specimens and Welocme also from me to the forum:)

Good luck with growing the fruit and veggies and if you need any advice then ask away.:thmb:

I know how expensive feeding pets can be as I have three cats, and used to have a dog plus two Guneia Pigs I rescued and it used to cost a lot of money feeding the pigs on fresh veggies every day.We grew a lot of our own stuff for them but as we couldn't get peppers and cucumbers in the winter months I used to buy them and it got a tad expensive:p

Im just starting out and my daughter has just bought me a little walk in greenhouse for mothers day, so im giving it a go. Im trying peppers, strawberries, kiwi, rasberries, tomatoes and chives. I would love some fruit trees, but im worried that I will make a mistake and kill them somehow. Im really interested in a greenhouse as I seem to have packed my little walk in to the roof with flowers and fruits etc. i really dont know were to start looking, I cant really afford a new one, and i think an 8 by 6 would be big enough to start with. Its just so exciting, im buying all the gardening mags and really trying to get into it, but I have a back injury that only allows little work every day. But im so looking forward to seeing my bulbs and seeds sprouting up in the next couple of weeks. I love this place too.

Ashia. Good Parrots ! I also like parrots. They have such colourfull feathers and they belong to many different species from nearly all the continents: Africa, South America, Australia, etc.
I happen to visit a theme park in Tenerife.
Namely, in "Puerto de la Cruz". The name of this park is "Loro Parque" ("Loro" means "Parrots" in spanish).
It is a lovely park both to see parrots, other animals, dolphins shows, beautiful gardens and lovely sights.

    Bye !

Have you visited the palmetum in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and, if so, what do you think about it?

    Hi Ashia,
Parrots are a long term commitment aren't they? Longer than just about any pet I think. But as you say, so very entertaining if happy. Do you let yours 'fly free'?
It will be so good if you 'grow your own' but don't forget you can grow many things on windowsills, also now I believe there are upright (not the correct word maybe?) planters for many things so that saves space too.
So, do your parrots say any words, sing etc? I know so many can. thanks for sharing.

    cheers

Hi ashia, lovely birds you have, I also have a male African Grey called Harry and a cockatiel called Sparky that I originaly hand reared about 15 years ago.
Up untill about 3 years ago I used to breed parrots, parakeets and some finch.
I was big in to that hobby for over 25 years but like a simple life these days like the garden k-l
