What am i doing wrong? Every year I try to grow it and it comes up and then stops. I sow it in containers but it just won't flourish.

It could possibly be that your containers are too small. Parsley puts out a big root system. After years of growing it from seed I now take the lazy way and buy a pot from Tesco and plant that. Works a treat!

I agree with Dave about parsley's root system, it's big! But it's still common to find magazine articles which suggest you can grow parsley in little pots on your window sill. Well, you can but the plants will stay small and a bit puny.

I've always found that parsley grows best in the soil, somewhere a bit damp, and even then, it's only at its best in the first year. When it's been through a hard winter and the slugs have had a good nibble, the second year is rarely as good as the first. So I grow it as an annual.

My seeds don`t do nowt either-I have done as Dave and planted out ones from supermarkets and they are fine-even come through winter quite easily. I have mine growing inside the edge of a gravel path and the slugs don`t touch it-but caterpillars do.

I never knew parsley had a huge root system. Would it work in a huge pot?

My Parsley is coming up well again 9n a sheltered corner.I will sow some new seeds though. Make a shallow trench with the back of a rake and pour a kettle full of boiling water along it ,sow seeds in it immediatly, never fails.

I've always struggled with Parsley, but they do say that it has to be planted by the person who wears the trousers. Say no more! :hehe:

There's a country tradition that says parsley should be sown on Good Friday.... they tested it on GQT ... and it worked!

I sow the seeds first then pour the boiling water over them. I didn't believe it when I was told to do it but it worked and I had parsley growing in no time. I checked my parsley patch today and it seems to have wintered well and is flourishing, but I'm going to sow some more in pots to make sure and plant it out when the weather is a bit better.
