I have two Passion Fruit (tree or bush?) which are looking very sorry. They are about 6ft tall and between the two cover about 10ft of the back fence. I moved into this house second week in December and they were lovely. Very green with lots of fruit which the birds were enjoying but now after the severe frosts we have had they look dead. Totally withered and brown. Is this normal for this time of year or has the frost got to them? Also should they be cut back? Thanks.

Hi Raymond, I guess your referring to the hardy blue flowered passion flower, which has orange fruits.

If so, its probably been cut back badly by the frost, its probably not dead though and will reshoot when things warm up, it could be early May before you can see much happening though.
Its possible that the weather has been bad enough to kill all the top growth and it may need to shoot from the ground again.

You could cut back the parts that are obviously dead now though if you want to tidy it up.

Hi Pete. It was the previous owner who told me it was Passiion Fruit. I have not seen it in flower, just with orange/yellow fruit. Think I will have to cut it back a bit and see what happens.
    Thanks.

Not looking good. Plants still appear to be dead but will give them a bit more time just in case.

Give it time. I thought I had lost mine two winters ago, then late last summer new growth appeared and it was looking promising. Then we had another cold winter and I think this time it's had it. But yours might pull through.

Passion flowers are not early starters, but the odd small bud should be showing if its still alive above ground.
If not, I'm sure it will come from the roots, but that might take till next month.
