    Hi,
My front lawn is nice and thick, it gets the sun all day and its had plenty of water lately but I am seeing patches appear and I'm not sure what they are or how to deal with them... Could anyone help to identify what this is and how to cure it please?

I have taken a sample from the patch.... Here is a picture of a clump

If this isn't clear enough, I've included a single piece...

Any ideas on how I can resolve this?
    Thanks
    Bob

    Hi Bob,

That's moss. It comes in when grass is struggling.

You need to find the reason why the grass might be having a tough time and address it.

Is the ground in the area really hard? That's my best guess without seeing it.

Usually moss starts when a lawn is shaded, that's not the case here. I'm wondering if you are mowing regularly enough and at the right height?

Looks more like moss thatch to me, maybe the moss is dying? Rake it out?

My first guess is the same as Kris Lords: heavy ground and compacted.

If so needs aerating, sulphate of iron applied to kill the moss, which will go black "over night", and then rake it out - which is hard work! (or borrow/hire a machine to do that)
