Hi I'm new here and need help. My lawn has been very patchy, with each patch developing a pair of holes at its centre each night, for the last two years. I am trying to determine what is causing it. I thought it was leatherjackets but when I dug up the patches I found these wee beasties which are about 2 cm long at the most. Are they Chafer grubs? Their colour looks right but their front legs make them look like caterpillars. .. oh and what's the solution? Help please :)

Thanks for this - really appreciated :dbgrtmb:. Its weird but the links you sent me show that the grub has six legs forming at the front whereas mine(!) have much less formed leg-like things all the way down like a caterpillar, if you see what I mean. Maybe they are just very young summer chafer grubs? Still cant help thinking the legs are different though

These pictures may make my worry about the legs saying grub or caterpillar clearer
