Is there anything that can be done to help fatten up garlic bulbs this late in the day, mine are still not much bigger than a golf ball. They are a hardneck variety and were planted last October, the stems look beefy but the actual bulbs are small, the leaves are also yellowing and showing signs of rust, all in all a bit of a washout this year.

You've just described my garlic exactly.

I pulled them out last weekend coz I needed the space and the rust was looking nasty. Now drying in the shed.

Anyone got an answer for Digger and me for next year?

Me too. Not a good year for garlic. They are so cheap I mainly buy them in the supermarket anyway. However, I do like to grow a few for the delicious experience of eating them "in the green", even if UK grown stuff is a bit small for that.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with disappointing garlic this year (onions too). Such is the life of a gardener (sigh!)
