Today I laid a path on my plot with 2x2 slabs. Some have laid carpets between plots and some chippings.

I have been told by friends carpets are not allowed on certain allotments. I wonder why. It does keep the weeds down.:)

Maybe it's the material itself. Some are foam-backed, which when rotted down might contaminate the ground. I dunno, just guessing. Also, they CAN look a bit unsightly. Cheers...freddy.

Some of the guys on our site do use carpets but only because that is the only material available to them because it is usually free to good home etc. but then again not for paths just to cover their compost heaps.

The allotment sites are not to look pretty or so everyone keeps telling me although I tend to disagree with this as I do like things nice and neat maybe that's just a woman thing :cnfs:

For our paths we intend to use grass paths edged off with boards (when we get enough) but for some areas we might use some black weed membrane as we have brought loads from a farmer near Lincoln.Hel.xxx.

When we had our open day many visitors said how lovely and neat our plots looked and the reason for this is our allotment keeper nags at us saying he wants a show piece allotment. All he needs is a whip for a xmas prezzi. I do know the women tend to keep their plots tidy.:D
