I turned my attention to the patio tubs and I noticed that there was a great deal more lichen on the slabs this year. Does anyone have a foolproof method of removing it? I have a power washer, but I am reluctant to use it for fear of going through the slab surface.
    Thanks,
    JC.

Hi there - why do you want to remove it. Lichen can make very attractive patterns on stone - if your really must remove it - then just water and a brush should do it. There is nothing that I know of that will stop it recurring. Maybe some else could advise.

Lichen and moss are part of the natural patina you get on stoneware planters. Personally I'd leave it as it does no harm to the plants. Anything (chemical or abrasive) you use to remove it will have to be fairly agressive to shift lichen but moss can be easily killed with armillatox and then scrubbed off with a stiff brush.

Patio Slabs can become slippery when wet if there is lichen present. I have to scrub mine each Spring and I use mild green which is soft to my hans, hans get it? oh well, and water. I like to see it on walls and planters as mentioned above adds to the overall effect.

Thanks to all for the advice. I'll leave it where I can.
