I want to create a "prairie" garden on an old and thriving bit of pasture. About 2500 sq ft. It is on a south facing slope on good loam. Does anyone out there have any experience of creating this kind of garden? I would appreciate any help I can get. Where can I get suitable seeds ? What prep and maintainance do I need to do ? Help !!!

Welcome to GC, Patricia. I'm sure there's someone out there who knows what to do with LOTS of land. How do you mean by "prairie" ... wildflowers, tumbleweeds, shrubs, trees, a clue as to your preferences would help.

    Enjoy!

well you can get herb and wildflower seeds from suffolk herbs they even sell in bulk..I suppose you will want grass as well? i would draw a plan of what you want to achieve..regarding walk ways ..seating areas ..maybe a pond? and if you put these areas in first then you plant seeds and whatever you wish around them..with that amount of space you could have some bushes to attract wildlife and trees ..and i am so jealouse.. [IMG] go into the herb and wildflower section on here and see if any of the plants in their takes your fancy!!...

    Welcome patricia

Someone is sure to help you with advice. There are hundreds of different types of lovely grasses that may be suitable but I don't know how well they do with wildflowers.

    Good luck with your project.
