One of a kind. and a keen cricket fan also.
I was surprised that he was only 89 though.

What a shame. I guess quite a few of us grew up watching him describe what was going on outside our world. I vaguely remember his commentary on the moon landings, a real character that could convey the natural wonders.

He was a true eccentric - mad as a box of frogs in my book, but boy was he clever (and hugely likeable). There will never be another like him, that's for sure, and he will be sadly missed by many.

      RIP

I still have vivid childhood memories of watching the TV coverage of the Apollo missions, usually hosted by Patrick Moore and James Burke.
Patrick Moore had a wonderful ability to communicate and explain what was happening, in his own inimitable way, without having to resort to fancy graphics or gimmicks, which are so beloved of many of today's presenters.
A little part of my childhood is gone.
      RIP Patrick.

My first recollection of Patrick Moore was on the ch4 program games master.
Sad loss to the world of astronomy!
