pc keeps crashing & freezing

    Have you got any security programs on the devilish machine, Nick?? You could download CC cleaner [it's free] and clear out all the junk files that clutter and slow everything. Also Wise Engineer is another free program that will clear out the registry of your computer. Also Spotbot [also free] is good to have. Try down loading and using the first two to see if they help.:snork:

    I'll go with what Armandii has said Nick. I had similar issues months back and giving the computer's system a complete clearout solved the problem. After a clean up try defragmentation as well, that will retrieve any pockets of unused space. :)

      A good idea :dbgrtmb: but if you store any passwords on your computer you better make sure you remember what they are. Yuo shouldn't really keep passwords on the computer unless they are unimportant. CC Cleaner will do an excellent cleaning job but also clears your history and cookies and is likely to clean up where you may have stored your passwords.

        I suppose it depends on what you mean by disc. My computer backs up data twice a day to a second hard drive (or disc :heehee:) and a mirror copy to an external hard drive once a day. Mirror copies are handy if the computer crashes as it saves reloading all software - I think:)

        I had to do a clear out my laptop the other day, factory reset.
        Forgot to save all my passwords :/
        So just remember to write them all down or something.

          Having 1 backup is OK, but you really CANNOT lose something, use 2 or 3 backups. Good go have 2 on-line backups and 1 home one (USB connected drive or a network connected storage).
          Sounds silly but I once had 2!!!! backups go dead within the time it took to get the recovery done. Cost me £2000 to get data back. That cannot be cheaper than getting an extra backup just in case!

          If computer seems slow and CCleaner doesn't help, try checking your drives for errors and do a surface scan (surface scan can take a while).

          I've twice had problems with Windows - automatic update caused the system to fail.
          The resultant problem was inability to get the PC to startup.
          Good old Windows - I don't think!

          :ThankYou: all for your replys and help I Am a PC Idiot and know nothing about them :mad:my pc does have cc cleaner and somthing else else i carnt rember wot its called with out looking at it iv ran them both and it has helped a bit still keeps crashing but not as bad its Gutted me I Aint been able to get on here :mad: i only use GC Ebay and a vw forum thats about my limet!!!               If your running windows xp, vista, 7 etc then it's probably a conflicting security update.

              Try a system restore on your pc, back to when it started to happen. This should remove the problem, is that is the cause. I've had system updates that will knock out parts of my hardware, usually soundcards which is incredibility annoying :wallbanging:
