Peacocks have turned up in my Garden !
Well, a Peacock and a Peahen. They look like Indian Blues.
To start with I was quite charmed - running about taking piccies - will try to post some.
But now I see what the bandits are doing.
The cock is sitting on my roof, braying like a donkey and as loud as a car tooting.
The hen is screaming like a Banshee.
They are both pecking into my pots and eating everything they can get.
They are not afraid of me and I can stand between them and try to chase them with no effect.
They have been in my neighbours gardens as well doing all the same stuff.
I have googled for advice and it doesn't look good !
    Any practical advice :help::help::help:

Well sadly, Cajary, it might come to that. I don't want to do it, but I gather even getting them to that stage would be very difficult. They are very big and very bold.
All easier said than done !

If they pecked at my stuff they would be oven ready in a flash.

Quite a problem - peafowl have a large territory (in their eyes!) and will happily wander across it all.

Do you know who they might belong to? If so, speak to them as they have an obligation to keep them penned if they are wandering (danger to traffic, damage to vehicles, yes, they perch on them).

If they don't belong to anyone, or at least, not recently as peafowl will wander off if they decide the grass is greener and not return, you might need to speak to authorities to get them removed.

Sadly, too many people keep them in small gardens these days or worse, abandon them. They are beautiful birds but need room to roam and 'spread their wings'.

    Good luck!

Do you have a stately home/public garden nearby from which the birds could have strayed? It might be worth making a few phone calls.

Leeds Castle (in Kent, despite the name) is not far from me and has been known to take in various homeless birds, including a goose which was found wandering down the A2 by the local police! Perhaps there is somewhere near you which might give your birds a home, even if you can't trace the original owners.

Yes, some pictures would be great :)

But I still think the police need to be informed in case they start wandering onto roads and cause a hazard.

Do they roost in your neighbourhood? That might give a clue where they come from - if they are leaving at night time, then they have a 'home' and someone feeding them...if they stay put then they've decided that they prefer your area to wherever they originally started!

    Thanks for the replies everybody.
Those pesky peafowl have been in everybody's garden over the past few days and causing a real nuisance. There is a hotel near here who keep them . They have been contacted but deny ownership.
They haven't appeared today - so far.
    I'll post some pics later.

Well the latest news is that those pesky peafowl were strutting their stuff on the main road to Aberdeen last night and the Police were out running about trying to catch them :gnthb:. That must have been funny :lollol:
I do hope they got them and they're on their way to a new home - far from here !

Yes, beautiful birds but their territory can be several acres-wide...in their eyes anyway!

They can be kept in large avaries but these need to have good height as they can fly and will happily perch on tree branches 20 or 30 foot up.

    Hurry up with those pictures!

Well, here's the bandit Peafowl in my garden.
The latest news is the Police failed to capture them last night. They haven't been in my garden today. They're now marauding elsewhere.
Sorry the pics are probably thumbnails to click on.
I just can't master the Photobucket thing without buying a box of chocolates or whatever.
    One of these days !
