Strong winds and rain this week have brought down most of our pears. The problem now is sorting out the keepers from the composters. They keep quite well and taste gorgeous when cooked. This lot were picked up today - we've already picked four or five buckets of them!

The tree is at least 150 years old, we can't climb it to pick the pears so have to let gravity pick them for us. Unfortunately those that land on the driveway tend to get a bit bashed, but the ground on the other side of the hedge has a thick layer of bark on it and provides a soft landing.

Our two squash plants did very well this year and we've had about ten squash off them. These are the final crop that I picked last week. I'll store them in the shed and probably give half of them away as it takes us a couple of weeks to use just one.

Wish I lived next door-I often eat a whole squash (roasted with thyme and a sprinkle of white pepper and sugar) for a meal and could easily help you out..

    Lovely Autumnal crop.
