    Hi,

Can anyone identify whats causing the leaf curl on my 2 year old patio pear tree.

It grew well last year to 6 ft, plenty of good leafs , though no fruit flowers.

This year its leafs came out well but now they are curling up as the pics below show.

Looks like its started at the top and working down, about half way down by the time I noticed it.

Examined the leafs with a glass and undable to see any instects or signs of droppings or webs etc.

Have opened up the whitish blobs but no obvious creature inside.

The plant is well watered and properly fertilised.

Alongside are 2 apple , plum and cherry plants that seem unaffected.

    Is this treatable ...?

    thanks

    Hi
looks like leaf blister mite to me, you would normally pick of and burn affected leaf/fruit but as it appears to be so infected i would try and get a chemical spray treatment.. Check though that it is suitable for edible fruit.. They are also very thirsty at this time of year so plenty of water. Lack of water can cause leaf curl but your added symptoms point to leaf mite.. Well to me anyway as the mites over winter in the leaf and fruit buds, so you don't know they are there.. A winter wash is beneficial for fruit trees to eliminate the mites then..

Thanks for that, ... still learning ! :)

There are no flowering buds open yet so might have a chance to try some spray treatment without affecting the fruit.

From further reading, seems its not a fatal problem, though clearly lack of good leaves must have a detremental effect.

Thanks for the link, a good explanation of the mites life cylce.

Looks like its just a choice of Vitax or Growing Success for a winter tree wash, though worthwhile for all the other fruit trees.

Though they have all been growing well the last two years, should have done some more research on the care of fruit trees !!

Oh and yes Vitax is the main one I think and I use that, but Mr Fothergills do their own too I believe.. Good luck ;)
