    Hi,
My wife brought home a pear tree 4 years ago with a root ball the size of a fist. I said it wouldn't grow but planted it in a large pot for her. To my amazement it did grow and each year since produced loads of flowers but no fruit. I only found out lately that I should have had two for cross pollination. I have no idea of the breed, but would anyone know of any varieties that could be used for pollination.

    Many thanks

    Best regards

    David

Hi Demerson I am not an expert but I have found different varieties of pears flower at slightly different times of the year but almost all overlap to some degree. The best way to ensure the best pollination rate is to plant at least two pear trees which flower at roughly the same time. Pick partners based on the groupings below. This might be of some help to you.:)
Or we can wait for one of our friends who is more knowledgeable to come along.

    Early flowering pear varieties include
    Beth
    Beurre Hardy
    Conference
    Invincible
    Louise Bonne of Jersey
    Packham's Triumph
    Sensation
    William's Bon Chretien

    Late flowering pear varieties include
    Concorde
    Doyenne du Comice
    Glou Morceau
    Onward
