I've got two pear trees that have been in the ground now for about 2 months. They are both around 5 foot tall, very skinny and with no branches just about 20 budding shoots from about 12 inches up, right to the top. I'm just wondering if I should cut them down so that they are shorter if I want a bush pear?

If so how high should I prune the trees to and how many side shoots should I leave.

    thanks

I'm no fruit expert, Sawfish - but I'd be reluctant to prune any tree or bush until it had been longer in the ground - although with bush roses they do advise heavy pruning back to establish a good root growth. So, I'm not sure. Hang on for someone like Rossco to come along - or PM him!! ;)
