    Hey Catztail,:)

    Now theres a question.

I planted peas in late august last year and was still getting them in november, right up untill the snow came.

Not being a great carrot grower, i planted in January and have already had a good crop. If you can protect them from the worst of the winter weather then its always worth a go at most times.

Picked some whoppers that survived last years snow:dbgrtmb:

Brilliant! I think I will have a go and try some in pots. I'll try and get stuff that matures a bit early. It's Plant Pottys' fault for making me hungry......

lmao blame me! but blame aside peas in pots seems to work well in a small garden, Iv'e got peas growing everywhere lol the date of the first photo is the same day ziggy posted his "holding bed" thread? I'll find it (the date) for you, the second photo is in the middle, and the last is today, the fantastic thing about growing in pots is that you can bring them in on a spare window sill to germinate faster, then lob them outside and see how they do.....

The pots are from poundland and are a pile of pants coz the drainage holes arn't thro, but sorted with a soldering iron:WINK1:

Not sure about the carrot question? they seem to take forever to grow compared to most other stuff? I was'nt sure if I should dig them or leave them to a loved one in my Will:DOH:

But glad I made you hungry:yess:

We are still sowing Autumn King carrots and then will fleece them so that any late batches of carrot root fly will miss them and like Ziggy we were still pulling them through the winter as the posh fleece we were using was enough to keep the frost at bay.

We are in the Midlands Catztail so not far from you but remember Ziggy is down in the South West where the plants and veggies benefit from warmer conditions. We have been down in Minehead on Christmas day and have taken photos of Daffodils in full flower and down at Porlock Weir have seen Pelargoniums{house plant variety}out in full flower in one of the gardens at the same time of the year:D

Give it a go and see what they turn out like and you will have an idea for other years whether it is a good idea or not,but I suppose it will depend on what sort of winter we get this year:D

Ah yes the drainage holes..... I use a drill for that. Loads of the plastic ones don't have holes...... I wonder why that is??? Luckily I have plenty of plastic pots in my greenhouse that have holes already. I grew some carrots in pots once and they came out fine. They never did get very big but I was lazy about thinning them out. Didn't have any pest problems either! I think I will make a run to the garden center later and see if their seeds are a Billy Bob bargain yet. Thanks everyone for the replies!!
