I have my peas planted in two of my large half barrels against the fence, so I have a bit of flexibility as how best to support them - - I can either make a wigwam (4-6 canes) per barrel and then put strings criss-crossed inside the wigwam going upwards, OR I can have a couple of poles on the outside of each barrel and then run string between them to make more of a rectangular affair - which would be best?

I am thinking of employing similar tactics to the runner beans that I got at shineyland too - - two plants per square pot (diagonally planted) with a cane wigwam from the corners?

Bamboo canes with string would be my way forward for the peas and the beans; just be aware that those strings may have to take some weight if you have very productive plants. Miss a couple of days of picking and you'll be surprised how many seems to appear from nowhere to weigh things down :heehee:

I'm growing runner beans just for the flowers/bees, none of us like them, ive given them a start with canes, but will let them do what they want on the conifers.

Have done 2 showings of peas this year and not one has germinated . I will see if there are any at the garden centre.
