I have the peas growing, but although I have many pods they are not filling out,
They are not, but it looks like Mange tout, three or so pods are full Peas, the rest are just flat things, is it just a matter of time ? Though it has been a few weeks now

I don't know how right it is Jack but I'm sure I've heard the roots need to be kept cool with a good mulch for the pods to swell:dunno:

I had that happen with one variety, looked like mangetout, but all of a sudden they turned into peas.

        What variety are you growing?

I am having the reverse problem as well. Some of my mangetout have 'swollen'. Can they still be eaten? Why has this happened? Have I left them too long before picking?

I have grown Hurst Greenshaft this year, and the last, and they grow really well. I'm my experience the peas developed quite uniformly, and the swelling of the pods was quite regular, however this year I think the hot weather was too much for them because they all withered away and died before I got any good harvest. Perhaps, it could hot weather where you are, and in that case just keep them cool and regularly water to ensure they don't dry out

I've had both these problems with my HG peas, which also had really bad mildew, and my mangetout, both due to very hot, very dry weather. I pulled out the lot just the other day.

Jack I've experienced exactly the same thing with the same variety of Peas. Living within a few miles of each other we'll know it ain't too hot or dry weather to blame! All of a sudden over the past couple of days my Peas are beginning to grow bigger but still pretty small, yet had large pods for ages, very strange. Grew the same variety last year without this oddity. The summer was better last year so maybe it's that we haven't had much warmth this year? I am growing Mange Tout in the same area and they have been very good. Clueless as to why the Peas are so slow I'm afraid.

My mangetout are finished now - unless someone tells me there come back some how. I did sow some more ten days ago which have germinated. So I simply pull them out and put in the compost bin?

Snaps and peas are looking a tad better - not what I expected though. Was told they were easy to grow.
