    Hi All

I have now found some peat pots in the shed, would it be ok to sow parsnips & beetroot in them and keep in the greenhouse until they have germinated then plant the whole pot in the garden or allotment?? I have sown some direct in the allotment but am a bit worried about germination as some of the seed was quite old. I plan to replace the Parsnip ungerminated positions with the peat pots.

    Thanks

    Dave

For the parsnips Dave, I would be inclined to cut the bottoms out of pots used for the parsnips so as not to inhibit growth. The beetroot should be fine though.:thumb:

I would favour making some pots from Newspaper - you can make them deeper (than I suspect your peat pots will be). Parsnip roots happen at a surprising rate, and I think extra inches are important for them!

I grow bulbous roots (like Beetroot) in ordinary pots, and thus transplant them - but having plant-everything pots would obviously be better, so your peat ones would be good for that (or newspaper pots again)
