I took a dozen Pelargonium cuttings last year and kept them in our barely heated conservatory all winter. They all took and grew on well. So well, in fact, that they have been flowering for several weeks.

I want to put them outside - probably in pots - and need some advice. They range from 18" to 2 feet tall (45 - 60cm) with flowers and buds at the top. Should I just plant them as they are or, if I reduce the height, will they flower later, from lower down? Can anyone advise?

You can take the tops off them Boghopper and they will bush from the bottom.
I see you're in Kent but I still wouldn't put them out just yet. They're not frost hardy and they don't like the cold. You could start hardening them off during the day.

Alice - you are absolutely right.

..... But having said that I put all my Pelargoniums outside yesterday. It was really a matter of wanting the space. Actually a lot of tender perennials, including Pelargoniums (Geraniums to most people), will take a bit of frost. A few years ago I left about 20 zonals outside all one winter, set against the house, and 80% of them survived - and that's in Yorkshire. I only did it because I didn't want them - I decided their colour was just too orange for me.

I have no illusions that we could have another frost, so I placed my plants against a south facing house wall. We will see....
